Skeleton steve parker5/30/2023 Cave's allegorical and often-improvised lyrics have also been noted to be less narrative and character-based than on previous Bad Seeds albums. Several songs on the album utilise avant-garde techniques, including the use of dissonant musical elements and non-standard song structures. Skeleton Tree 's minimal production and "less polished" sound incorporates elements of electronica and ambient music and, like Push the Sky Away, features extensive use of synthesizers, drum machines and loops. Most of the album had been written at the time of Cave's son's death, but several lyrics were amended by Cave during subsequent recording sessions and feature themes of death, loss, and personal grief. During the sessions, Cave's 15-year-old son, Arthur, died from an accidental fall. It was produced by Nick Cave, Warren Ellis and Nick Launay. A follow-up to the band's critically acclaimed album Push the Sky Away (2013), Skeleton Tree was recorded over 18 months at Retreat Recording Studios in Brighton, La Frette Studios in La Frette-sur-Seine and Air Studios in London. It was released on 9 September 2016 on Bad Seed Ltd. Skeleton Tree is the sixteenth studio album by Australian rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

The hunger novel alma katsu5/30/2023 Seriously, I picked this book up after I had read "The Indifferent Stars Above: The Harrowing saga of the Donner party" (It's wonderful and I highly recommend it.) I was worried that I would not like this book as much. Is it okay to say that I devoured this book? "Maybe it takes one demon to keep the others away." He paused. As members of the party begin to disappear, they must ask themselves "What if there is something waiting in the mountains? Something disturbing and diseased.and very hungry?" While the ill-fated group struggles to survive in the treacherous mountain conditions-searing heat that turns the sand into bubbling stew snows that freeze the oxen where they stand-evil begins to grow around them, and within them. Whether it was a curse from the beautiful Tamsen, the choice to follow a disastrous experimental route West, or just plain bad luck-the 90 men, women, and children of the Donner Party are at the brink of one of the deadliest and most disastrous western adventures in American history. They cannot escape the feeling that someone-or something-is stalking them. Depleted rations, bitter quarrels, and the mysterious death of a little boy have driven the pioneers to the brink of madness. That is the only way to explain the series of misfortunes that have plagued the wagon train known as the Donner Party. The stars beneath my feet book5/30/2023 He deals with many issues relevant to middle school aged students from many walks of life including divorced parents, parents dating, rocky friendships, and peer pressure. Lolly shows inspirational resilience throughout the novel. This includes drugs, gangs, guns, and tragically the violent death of his brother. Warnings: Lolly grows up in NYCHA housing in Harlem and is exposed to many things that may be troubling or difficult for young children to understand. Themes: coming of age, death of a loved one, students on the autism spectrum, grief, same sex relationships, drugs/gangs The Stars Beneath our Feet Discussion Questions and book review Know Before You Read The Stars Beneath Our FeetĪuthor and Illustrator: David Barclay MooreĪge Suggestion: 12+ (10+ if read aloud with adult) This post contains affiliate links, you can find out more on our policies page or in the disclaimer at the bottom of the blog. The Stars Beneath our Feet Discussion Questions and review written by Hannah Gottschalk-Lineman on Jon scieszka the stinky cheese man5/30/2023 The seemingly ageless Seeger brings back his renowned giant for another go in a tuneful tale that, like the art, is a bit sketchy, but chockful of worthy messages. The brief, colloquially told, thoroughly revised tales are in the same comic spirit: no one wants to eat the Stinky Cheese Man, unlike the Gingerbread Boy a lovestruck prince puts a bowling ball under his princess's 100 mattresses "and much, much more!" All of this is fairly amusing, but what's most unusual is the innovative play with typography (a repetitive story gets smaller and smaller like an eye test, and words and letters are distorted in various other ways) and Smith's wondrously bizarre and expressive art ("The illustrations are rendered in oil and vinegar," states the colophon). The insistent Hen is already squawking her tale at Jack-officious narrator, MC, and sometime participant-before a page labeled "Title Page" in 192 point type the dedication is upside down, Jack's introduction carries a Surgeon General's warning, and the table of contents turns up late-after a story in which it plays an unprecedented role, then gets a jolt that knocks one tale off the page and, apparently, right out of the book. From the front jacket copy (".56 action-packed pages, 75% more than those old 32-page 'Brand-X' books") to the Little Red Hen's back-cover diatribe ("Who is this ISBN guy?"), the parodic humor here runs riot. The bronze horseman novel5/30/2023 Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana-and she to him. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. The golden skies, the translucent twilight, and the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, and of eternal renewal. Called "a Russian Thorn Birds," The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons is a sweeping saga of love and war that has been a monumental bestseller all over the world.
